Day 02: Amman – Jerash – Ajloun – Amman

Day 03: Amman – Desert Castle – City Tour – Amman

Breakfast, transfer east of Amman towards to visit the Desert Castles (3 Castles), then back to Amman for a City Tour, Dinner and Overnight at your hotel in Amman.

The Desert Castles built in the 7th & 8th century AD as retreats from city life. Widely varied in function & architectural style, these ancient castles, baths, hunting lodges & fortified palaces were mostly belonging to Umayyad princes.

Qasr El-Kharaneh; which was probably rebuilt by the Umayyads in (AD 711) over a Roman or Byzantine site. This mighty structure, with its imposing walls and narrow slits, looks like a military fortress; experts believe that it was probably used as a caravansary, being set on the path of several ancient trade routes.

Qasr Amra; the most charming of all the Umayyad buildings in Jordan. It was built as a bath-house (a place of leisure) by the Umayyad Caliph El-Walid around (AD 711). The real outstanding attraction of Qasr Amra is the frescoes adorning its interior walls and ceilings.
They are of exceptional interest for what they portray of human life: men hunting, athletes competing, women bathing and dancers performing and hence.
Qasr Amra is an UN-declared World Heritage site.

Qasr El-Azraq (Qal’at el-Azraq) was built by the Romans as a military outpost. It was then used by the Byzantines, and later on by the Umayyad Caliphs for their hunting expeditions in and around the marshes. Qal’at El-Azraq is most famous for having been the headquarters of T.E. Lawrence, better known as “Lawrence of Arabia,” in World War I during the Great Arab Revolt against the Ottoman Turks.

Amman; The capital of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. you will start your tour from the city center – the oldest part of Amman which is crowned by the citadel with a charming panoramic view of the whole city, also you can see the ancient ruins of the Hercules’ temple which dates back to (161-120), the Byzantine church, the Omayyad palace and the fascinating archaeological museum – it’s includes an amazing collection of Jordan’s antiquities.

At the foot of the Citadel there’s is the Roman theater built in the 2nd century, which is still used for cultural events till now.
Finally, go through Abdoun, the contemporary area that has some of the best modern architecture.

From a platform in front of the church, you can see a bronze memorial of a snake on a cross that Symbolizes the serpent raised by Moses in the desert, as well as the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

But it is undoubtedly Karak Castle that dominates.

The tour starts by passing by the Obelisk Tomb and then proceeding through the Siq –the narrow gorge that leads to Petra’s most impressive monument, the Treasury. Then on to the Street of Facades, the Theatre, the Royal Tombs, the Colonnaded Street, the Byzantine Church, the Temple, the Monumental Arch, Qasr el-Bint Faroun & finally climb up to the gigantic 1st century AD monument of the Monastery for those who wish.
